Vuonna 1912 vaivaistalo ja työlaitos päätettiin rakentaa kaupungin ulkopuolelle Koskelaan maaseudun rauhaan. Nyt Koskelan sairaala-alue muuttuu tuhansien asukkaiden asuinalueeksi. Suojellut vanhat rakennukset remontoidaan. Alueella on yhteensä 14 rakennusta, jotka on rakennettu vuosina 1910-1961.
